When you think about your marketing strategy, does it extend beyond social media?
If you said no, let’s talk about why it should.
I get it – social media is such an effective and easy place to focus your marketing strategy on. It’s free, accessible, and an easy way to really get your content into the hands of your target audience. Social media SHOULD be an important part of your strategy – but it can’t be your end all be all. And here’s why…
It’s not always going to end up in front of your audience
With an ever-changing algorithm and world of social media, you can be creating some killer content that isn’t seen by your audience simply because of how the algorithm works or an ineffective social media strategy. Yes, implementing the right strategies can help push your content to the right people. These strategies help maximize the little control you have in the algorithm, but it’s no guarantee.
Content doesn’t go past that one platform
When you post something super valuable on Instagram, it doesn’t go past Instagram. When you create a killer post on Facebook, it’s not going to be showing up in Google searches. It’s important to be creating other pieces of content that live on the actual internet and can be searched. Yes, you can use social media to drive traffic to your website, but that’s the point….you need to drive them somewhere to seal the deal.
People are taking in content differently
Gone are the days of only one social media platform and people only creating one type of content. There are so many different options for consuming content these days, like listening to audio, reading text and watching video. Only creating one type of content on social media will keep your content out of the hands of those who consume it differently.
You may be wondering, “How exactly do I market beyond social media?” Here are a few tips on expanding your reach without it overwhelming you:
- Utilize an email list to ensure your content is getting into the hands of your target audience. This is a great way to guarantee your stuff is getting to your people without wondering who has seen it. Sure, you can’t ensure the emails will be opened, but you at least know you are in their inbox.
- Repurpose your content. Have a killer Instagram post? Turn it into a blog post. Want to share valuable information through a carousel post? Make it a video and share it across different platforms. Don’t make things more difficult for yourself and use what you’ve already created!
- Use searchable content. Focus on using things like blog posts, videos, podcasts, and other searchable content to make sure your content can be found through Google searches. Again, this can be as simple as repurposing content into different formats and posting on other platforms!
