In the world of social media, it can seem like the most important focus is to always be gaining more and more followers. It can easily feel like a large number of followers = large success. But is this true? Is quantity more important than quality? Not necessarily.
Don’t get me wrong, followers are important to your business’s success. So often, though, people are too wrapped up in having the most followers or the largest following. However, if you aren’t focused on attracting followers that are interested in your service or product, your large following won’t convert to customers.
Another issue you run into when growing a large following of uninterested followers is the effect it has on your engagement rate. An account with 50,000 followers but posts that have little to no engagement not only hurts your analytics but doesn’t look great to potential followers trying to determine the legitimacy of your account. A low engagement rate means less exposure to other interested followers that could have been converted to clients.
Instead of focusing on the quantity of followers, start focusing on the quality of the followers you are attracting. Here are a few ways you can do this:
Create content geared towards your target audience
Make sure you are providing value to those followers who could be potential clients. The more valuable these followers find your content, the more they will engage and share your account with others.
Create quality content
Focusing on quality over quantity is vital when talking about content, too. Instead of trying to post daily, focus on posting valuable content a few times a week. Trying to meet a difficult posting schedule leads to watered-down content that doesn’t attract engagement.
Engage with your followers
Engaging with your community grows a real, organic relationship with your followers. It also helps ensure that the followers you have are real, human people rather than fake accounts or bots.
