People aren’t buying. Quick. What do we need?!
More followers!
More traffic!
Maybe more leads?
A bigger email list!
A new audience!
ORRRRRR…maybe we should figure out why the people already here aren’t buying?
Crazy idea, I know. 😂
But one of the biggest mistakes I see businesses make is trying to solve a marketing problem before they’ve actually figured out what the problem is.
“My content isn’t working.”
“My audience isn’t buying.”
“Instagram isn’t converting.”
“I need more leads.”
Okay.
But WHY?
Because “people aren’t buying” tells me what’s happening.
It doesn’t tell me why.
And if you get the why wrong, you can spend a shit ton of time and money fixing something that wasn’t broken in the first place.
Yes, Your Audience Could Be the Problem
Let’s get this out of the way.
Sometimes you really are talking to the wrong fucking people.
Maybe your content attracts people who love what you say but don’t need what you sell.
Maybe they need it but can’t afford it.
Perhaps your business evolved and your audience didn’t evolve with it.
Or maybe you’ve built an audience full of peers instead of buyers.
Those are audience problems.
But don’t assume that’s the problem just because people aren’t buying.
Because the right people could already be there.
Maybe Your Messaging Isn’t Connecting
Let’s say I am exactly the kind of person you want to work with.
I land on your website.
Can I quickly figure out:
- What do you do?
- Is it for me?
- Why should I care?
- Why should I choose you?
- What should I do next?
If I have to decode six paragraphs of clever-ass copy to figure out what the hell you’re selling, more traffic isn’t going to save you.
You’re just going to confuse more people.
That’s why “I need more visibility” makes me ask:
Visibility for WHAT?
More eyes on unclear messaging is still unclear messaging.
Maybe Your Positioning Makes You Forgettable
Or maybe I understand what you do, but I can’t figure out why I should choose you.
Helping you step into your next level.
Solutions tailored to your unique needs.
Empowering businesses to thrive.
Okay.
But what the fuck do you actually do?
If I can copy your website headline, paste it onto five competitors’ websites, and nobody notices, you might not need a different audience.
You might need stronger positioning.
People need a reason to choose your version of the solution.
Maybe It’s the Offer
Now let’s make this more annoying.
Maybe the audience is right.
The messaging is clear.
Your positioning is strong.
And they’re still not buying.
Then maybe we need to look at what you’re actually asking them to buy.
Maybe you’re solving a problem they don’t care enough about.
Or you’re selling Step 7 when they’re still stuck on Step 2.
Maybe the price doesn’t match the value they perceive.
Perhaps your marketing promises one thing and the offer delivers something that feels completely different.
Another 10,000 followers won’t fix that either.
Your Customer Experiences One Fucking Business
We talk about audience, messaging, positioning, social media, websites, offers, and customer journeys like they’re separate things.
Your customer doesn’t. They:
- See your post.
- Click your profile.
- Visit your website.
- Try to figure out what you do.
- Look at the offer.
- Decide whether they trust you.
- Decide whether it’s worth the money.
And somewhere along the way, they either keep moving or they don’t.
Your job is to figure out where they stopped and why.
Maybe social media did exactly what it was supposed to do and got the right person to your website.
Then they landed there and couldn’t figure out what the fuck you do.
That’s not a social media problem.
Social media did its job. Your website fucked it up.
Stop Pouring More People Into Something That’s Leaking
Imagine 1,000 people walk into your store.
They look around.
Nobody buys.
Do you immediately say:
“WE NEED 10,000 PEOPLE!”
Or do you ask:
“Why the fuck did the first 1,000 leave?”
If something inside the store is making people leave, bringing another 9,000 people through the door doesn’t fix it.
It just gives you 9,000 more people to lose.
Same goes for your marketing.
Before you decide you need more followers, leads, traffic, content, or customers, ask:
What evidence do I have that MORE is actually the solution?
Diagnose First. Then Fix Shit.
If people aren’t buying, follow the path.
Who are you attracting?
Are they actually potential buyers?
What are you saying?
Do they understand what you do and why it matters?
How are you positioned?
Do they have a reason to choose you?
What are you selling?
Does the offer match what they actually need?
What happens after they click?
Where are people dropping off?
That’s how you get closer to the actual problem.
And here’s the annoying part:
It might be more than one thing.
Your audience could be slightly off while your messaging is also unclear.
Your positioning could be weak while your offer needs work.
Your social media could be doing its job while your website quietly fucks everything up after the click.
Marketing doesn’t happen in neat little boxes.
Stop Treating the Symptom
That’s exactly why I created the Brand Clarity Report.
Sometimes you come to me thinking you have a social media problem…
and social media isn’t the fucking problem.
So instead of prescribing more content, I look across 10 areas:
Brand. Messaging. Positioning. Audience. Offers. Website. Content. Social Media. Customer Journey. Blind Spots.
The goal is simple:
Figure out what’s actually broken before you spend more time and money trying to fix it.
[FIND OUT WHAT’S ACTUALLY BROKEN →]
You don’t automatically need more followers.
You don’t automatically need a new audience.
And you defnitely don’t automatically need another fucking content calendar.
You need the right diagnosis.
Because the answer is almost never just one thing.
