There are so many numbers and metrics that are hyped up in the social media world - having 10,000 followers, a certain amount of likes on a post, having viral reels. Can I tell you something about those metrics, though?⁠

They 👏 don't 👏 matter 👏⁠

When tracking any numbers or metrics, it's first important to ask, "Is this metric helping move my business forward?"⁠

Before, 10,000 followers meant some additional features on Instagram (like the "swipe up" feature in stories), but now, nothing changes when you hit 10k other than the format of the number (10k rather than 10,000). ⁠

Sure, having reels go viral is cool, but is it helping your business? Unless those thousands and thousands of people are all part of your target audience and interested in your product, at most it will just bring in a few extra eyes. ⁠

Is having tons of likes on your posts really pushing your business forward? Sure, the likes help engagement, but engagement can be boost in so many other ways, too - like engaging with commenters or engaging with other accounts.⁠
